TechCongress seeks a Communications Intern for the winter/spring 2027 term, starting in early January and running through mid-May. TechCongress is a nonpartisan nonprofit that places technologists in Congress and state legislatures as fellows, building the technical expertise democratic institutions need to govern AI, digital infrastructure, and emerging technology. Over 11 years, they have placed more than 146 fellows in offices across both parties, including those of Speaker Emeritus Nancy Pelosi, Senator John Thune, and the Senate Intelligence Committee. 31 have been hired into full-time congressional staff roles. They are now expanding that model to state legislatures across the country.

Responsibilities

You’ll be a core member of the Communications Team, working on projects that shape how audiences, from Congress and the tech sector to state legislatures and the general public, understand the role of technology talent in policymaking.

Tell fellows’ stories. Draft fact sheets, blog posts, social media campaigns, and press materials that show how fellows’ technical expertise changed legislative outcomes.

Own monthly jobs newsletter. Produce each edition of Policy Opportunities for Technologists: source tech policy and public interest technology roles from their network and public job boards, write listing summaries, and build and send the edition in MailChimp.

Support branding. TechCongress is building its first-ever brand guide! Implement the new branding elements and ensure that all TechCongress materials reflect brand guidelines.

Document impact. Own the systems for collecting fellowship impact data and keep the fellow accomplishments and press coverage records current. Learn Google Drive structure and retrieve data for materials and reporting.

Shape our digital presence. Propose, draft, and publish website content. Plan and run campaigns on LinkedIn, X, and Bluesky, maintain the content calendar, and analyze engagement data to refine their strategy.

Support core programming. Internally, help execute their 2027 fellow orientation and 2028 recruitment events. Externally, support high-level panels, webinars, and in-person networking events that connect technologists and share their learnings.

Contribute to strategy. Analyze communications performance, pitch content ideas, and recommend ways to reach target audiences.

The internship pays $20/hour.
