Required Qualifications and Experience

• Must be a graduate of a recognized Medical Technology Institute or possess an equivalent relevant qualification accepted by the applicable health authorities.

• Minimum of two years of relevant work experience, preferably in a clinic, NGO, hospital, or private healthcare organization.

• Good knowledge of laboratory examination procedures, specimen collection and handling, and standard laboratory practices.

• Familiarity with quality control procedures, infection prevention, biosafety, and medical waste management.

• Ability to operate, clean, and maintain basic laboratory equipment.

• Ability to maintain accurate laboratory records and prepare routine reports.

• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel, are preferred.

• Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.

• High standards of honesty, accuracy, confidentiality, responsibility, and attention to detail.

• Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto, with knowledge of both languages preferred. Basic working knowledge of English is an advantage.

• Willingness to work according to the clinic schedule and respond appropriately to emergency laboratory requests.

• Perform laboratory examinations accurately and in accordance with approved medical protocols and established standards.
• Receive laboratory test requests, collect and process specimens, and prepare slides according to standard laboratory procedures.
• Record, verify, and report laboratory results accurately and promptly to the treating physician.
• Register patients and maintain laboratory registers, tally sheets, test records, and other required documentation.
• Give priority to emergency patients and communicate professionally and respectfully with patients and healthcare staff.
• Ensure the proper use, cleaning, maintenance, and safe storage of laboratory equipment, instruments, and materials.
• Monitor laboratory supplies, check expiry dates, maintain stock records, and request replenishment when necessary.
• Preserve malaria and sputum slides for quality control purposes, where required by applicable guidelines.
• Maintain laboratory cleanliness and comply with infection prevention, biosafety, and medical waste disposal procedures.
• Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly laboratory activity and stock reports.
• Participate in relevant training sessions and implement applicable national health guidelines and laboratory protocols.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure the safe handling of laboratory records and specimens.
• Report equipment malfunctions, supply shortages, and any laboratory-related incidents to the Clinic Manager.
• Recommend practical improvements to laboratory services and perform other relevant duties assigned by the Clinic Manager.
