“What are your strengths and weaknesses as a student?”
Expected Duration: 2 mins

Sample Answer

My strength is disciplined self-study: during school closures I completed the full physics syllabus independently and scored in the top 1% of the Kankor exam in my province. My weakness is over-researching before I start writing — I once delayed a lab report for a week collecting more sources than required. I now set a fixed research deadline and start drafting with what I have; the quality of my submissions improved once I did.

Strong Example

“I speak up late in groups — I once lost an idea that later won. Now I set myself a rule: contribute within the first ten minutes of any meeting.”

Weak Example

“My weakness is that I am a perfectionist and I work too hard. My strength is everything.”

How to Answer

One real strength with evidence, one real weakness with an active fix. Fake weaknesses (“too hardworking”) tell the committee you’re not self-aware.

Common Mistakes

  • Disguised strengths as weaknesses
  • A weakness with no improvement plan
  • Strengths listed with no evidence

Follow-up Questions

  • Q: How will you handle a heavy course load here?
  • Q: What did your last teacher say you should improve?
