“Tell us about a community project you led or participated in. What was your specific role?”
Expected Duration: 2-3 mins
Sample Answer
I led a four-month literacy circle for 30 working children in my district. My specific role was designing the schedule around their shift times, recruiting two volunteer teachers, and negotiating free space with the mosque committee. Attendance reached 85% by the third month, and 11 of the children enrolled in public school the following year. I learned that sustainability depends on local ownership — that is why we trained two mothers as assistants.
Strong Example
“I coordinated 14 volunteers across 6 villages for a vaccination-awareness drive; our area reached 92% coverage versus 61% the previous year — I handled the data collection.”
Weak Example
“Our community has many problems and we all work together to help each other.”
How to Answer
Pick ONE project and go deep: numbers, your personal actions, and one lesson learned. “We” stories hide you — the interviewer must hear “I did this specifically”.
Common Mistakes
- Describing a project with no personal role
- No measurable outcome
- Listing five shallow projects instead of one deep one
Follow-up Questions
- Q: What was the hardest moment in that project?
- Q: If you had double the budget, what would you change?
