Job Interviews
Job InterviewsMedium
“Describe a time you handled a disagreement with a colleague.”
Expected Duration: 2-3 mins
Sample Answer
In our distribution team, a colleague wanted to complete registration by evening; I insisted we re-verify two villages because the data showed duplicate beneficiaries. Rather than arguing, I proposed we split the work: he continued registration while I spot-checked the duplicates. We found 14 repeated entries before payment day. Afterward we agreed on a joint checklist, and duplication errors dropped to zero in the next cycle.
Strong Example
“We disagreed on distribution priorities. I asked to see his data, shared mine, and we agreed on one combined list — the supervisor later adopted it as the standard.”
Weak Example
“I never have conflicts with anyone. I always agree with my colleagues.”
How to Answer
Show conflict maturity: focus on facts, propose a process, and end with the improved result. “I never disagree” tells the interviewer you avoid problems rather than solve them.
Common Mistakes
- Claiming you never have disagreements
- Blaming the colleague personally
- Ending the story without a resolution
Follow-up Questions
- Q: What would you do if the colleague still disagreed?
- Q: How do you handle disagreement with a supervisor?
