Scholarship InterviewsMedium
“Describe a significant challenge you faced in your education and how you overcame it.”
Expected Duration: 2-3 mins
Sample Answer
During grade 11 our province experienced weeks of school closures. I organized five classmates to study together at home and we shared one textbook between us. When exams were announced with only two weeks’ notice, we had covered the entire syllabus. That experience taught me that resources are often a matter of organization, not just access — and it is why I later started a free English study circle for younger students.
Strong Example
“When the internet was cut, I printed materials from a friend’s phone, organized a study group, and we all passed — two of us with the highest marks in the district.”
Weak Example
“We are poor and everything is difficult in Afghanistan. Life is very hard for us.”
How to Answer
Use the STAR structure: Situation, Task, Action, Result. Committees want evidence of resilience and initiative — end every story with a measurable outcome.
Common Mistakes
- Telling a sad story with no personal action
- Choosing a challenge too small to be credible
- Forgetting to state the result
Follow-up Questions
- Q: What would you do differently if it happened again?
- Q: How did that experience change the way you study?
