Criteria for University of Birmingham Scholarships

Applicants must first meet the academic and English-language admission requirements of their chosen University of Birmingham programme. Scholarship-specific eligibility requirements are given below.

High Fliers Undergraduate Scholarship Eligibility

Although the final 2027 eligibility criteria have not yet been released, High Fliers Scholarships are generally intended for international students who:

Apply for a full-time undergraduate programme at the University of Birmingham’s UK campus

Are entering the first year of their undergraduate degree

Are classified as international or overseas students for tuition-fee purposes

Meet the academic conditions attached to their University offer

Demonstrate strong academic achievement

Are domiciled in one of the countries or regions included in the relevant High Fliers competition Have sufficient funding to cover tuition fees and living costs not covered by the scholarship In the latest cycle, Medicine and Surgery and Dentistry were excluded from several High Fliers regional awards. Scholarship rules for Law and other specialist programmes can also differ. Some regional scholarships require nomination by a local University representative or partner school, while others consider eligible applicants automatically. You should therefore follow the instructions for your country rather than assuming that every High Fliers Scholarship has the same application process.

Postgraduate Chancellor’s Scholarship Eligibility

The final 2027 rules have not yet been published, but these scholarships are generally intended for students who:

Are classified as international students for tuition-fee purposes

Apply for an eligible full-time postgraduate taught master’s programme

Receive an offer from the University of Birmingham

Meet the academic conditions of their offer

Have an excellent academic record

Are domiciled in a country or region included in the relevant Chancellor’s Scholarship

Can meet the remaining tuition fees and living expenses not covered by the scholarship

Many Chancellor’s awards are based primarily on academic merit. Depending on the country, applicants may also be assessed through a Statement of Purpose, interview, local representative, or partner institution. Distance-learning programmes and research degrees such as MPhil, MRes and PhD have generally not been eligible for these postgraduate taught scholarships.

Chevening & Birmingham Partnership Scholarship Eligibility

To qualify for the Chevening Scholarship, applicants must

Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory

Commit to returning to their home country for at least two years after completing the scholarship

Have completed an undergraduate degree that qualifies them for a UK master’s programme

Have at least 2,800 hours of work experience

Apply for three eligible UK master’s courses

Secure at least one qualifying unconditional university offer by the required offer deadline Meet the admission requirements of their selected University of Birmingham course if Birmingham is one of their choices

Not have previously studied in the UK with funding from a UK Government-funded scholarship

Chevening is looking for applicants who can demonstrate leadership, relationship-building ability, a clear career plan, and a credible explanation of how studying in the UK will help them create positive change after returning home. The University of Birmingham itself does not select the main Chevening Scholarship recipients. Applications are assessed through the Chevening selection process, with interviews normally conducted through British embassies and high commissions.

د غوښتنې لارې چارې

for University of Birmingham Scholarships?

The application process differs for each scholarship.

for the High Fliers Undergraduate Scholarship?

  • Choose an undergraduate degree from the University of Birmingham course finder and check its academic, English-language, and programme-specific requirements.
  • Apply for undergraduate admission through UCAS and receive an offer from the University of Birmingham.
  • Once the 2027 scholarships are announced, find your country or region through the official international scholarships page.

Do not use another country’s High Fliers application form. Different regions may use different representatives, partner schools, nomination processes, and selection criteria.

  • Follow the application instructions for your specific regional scholarship. Depending on the award, you may need to complete a scholarship form, submit a Statement of Purpose, contact an authorised representative, secure nomination from a school, or simply meet the conditions for automatic consideration.

If a personal or scholarship statement is required, our guide on how to write a winning Statement of Purpose can help you organise your academic background, motivation, achievements, and future plans.

for the Postgraduate Chancellor’s Scholarship?

  • Search for an eligible master’s degree through the University of Birmingham postgraduate course finder and submit your admission application.
  • Receive an offer to study an eligible postgraduate taught programme at the Birmingham UK campus.
  • Check the University’s international scholarship database for the 2027 Chancellor’s Scholarship available for your country or region.
  • Follow the instructions on that regional page. Depending on the award, you may need to complete an online scholarship application, provide a Statement of Purpose, work through an approved local representative, or participate in an interview.

Selection is competitive and usually focuses strongly on academic performance. For postgraduate applications that require supporting materials, you may also find our guides on writing an academic CV and scholarship recommendation letter useful.

for the Chevening & Birmingham Partnership Scholarship?

  • Go to the official Chevening application page and select your country or territory.
  • Check that you satisfy the Chevening eligibility requirements before beginning the application.
  • Select three eligible one-year UK master’s courses. If you want to study at Birmingham, include an eligible University of Birmingham master’s course among your choices.

You can choose three different courses at Birmingham, three courses at different universities, or a combination of both, provided all courses meet Chevening requirements.

  • Complete and submit the Chevening online application. You will need to provide information about your work experience, education, leadership experience, professional relationships, career plans, and UK study choices.
  • Apply separately for admission to your chosen University of Birmingham programme. A Chevening application does not automatically create a university admission application.
  • If shortlisted, prepare your educational documents and two references and attend your Chevening interview.

Chevening requires the names and contact details of two referees during the application process. Candidates invited to interview must later upload the required reference letters and undergraduate degree documents.

  • Successful candidates must obtain at least one qualifying university offer and submit it through the Chevening system before the required offer deadline.

For a more detailed walkthrough, see our complete Chevening Scholarship 2027 guide.
