About the Company

EMERGENCY has been working in Afghanistan since 1999. The first hospital was opened in Anabah, in the Panjshir Valley, in 1999 to provide surgical treatments to war victims. After 2001 and the shift in conflict dynamics, the hospital admission criteria have been re-assessed according to the population’s needs, and is now a general hospital providing surgical, paediatric, obstetrics, and gynaecological care.

To respond to the rising population needs caused by the shift in conflict dynamics, EMERGENCY opened the Surgical Centre for War Victims in Kabul in 2001 followed by the Surgical Centre for War Victims in Lashkar-Gah in 2004. Since the beginning of its activities in Afghanistan EMERGENCY has progressively created a network of First Aid Trauma Posts and Primary Health Clinics, connected to the hospitals.

EMERGENCY’s hospitals are the only free-of-charge specialized health facilities providing high-quality treatments for war-related patients.

Job Summary

The Enumerator is responsible for conducting structured face-to-face interviews and collecting accurate, reliable, and confidential data from communities served by EMERGENCY hospitals, First Aid Posts (FAPs), and Basic Health Centres (BHCs). The role focuses on gathering community perceptions regarding safety, satisfaction with services, and accessibility of assistance, using standardized questionnaires and data collection tools. The Enumerator ensures data integrity through accurate recording and verification of responses, while demonstrating cultural sensitivity, effective communication, and adaptability in field environments.

Proficiency in local languages (e.g., Dari, Pashto) is essential; C1 English language skills is required.

High school diploma; a degree in social sciences or a related field is preferred.

Previous experience in data collection or fieldwork in humanitarian settings is an advantage.

Ability to conduct face-to-face interviews using structured questionnaires to gather information on community perceptions regarding safety, respect from aid workers, satisfaction with services, and accessibility of assistance.

Ability to record responses using standardized data collection tools and ensure data integrity by double-checking entries.

Familiarity with data collection tools is desirable; strong computer skills for data entry and reporting.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Ability to understand and respect local customs and practices when interacting with community members.

Willingness and availability to travel to field projects (EMERGENCY FAPs and BHCs).

Excellent verbal communication skills to facilitate clear understanding during interviews.

Ability to navigate challenges in the field effectively and adapt approaches as necessary.

Willingness to work collaboratively with other team members and stakeholders.

Flexibility in working hours and movement may be required to accommodate community availability.
